After he graduated from Bristol University in 1996 he joined WSP under a graduate engineer training programme. During this period, he undertook a variety of projects working as an engineering team member with group architects. Many of Ian’s early designs supported Hampshire County Council education projects, as well as schemes within the retail sector. In 2004 Ian passed his professional Institution of Structural Engineers part 3 examination, becoming a Chartered Engineer in October of that year. At this time, he moved to Whitbybird as a Senior Engineer to gain further experience within the educational and residential sectors and develop his managerial skills by assisting in running a regional team of structural engineers.

In 2013, Ian moved to Atkins to gain valuable site experience on a Government funded large civil engineering project with a capital value in excess of £1Bn. He spent a year on site leading a section of design engineers within a multidiscipline design team reporting directly to the lead project Resident Engineer.

Since joining Archibald Shaw, Ian has taken responsibility for many projects, including designs for new schools in West Berkshire, multi-storey framed buildings, residential conversions and extensions, residential barn conversions and numerous inspections of buildings.
